Well I took Birddogs advise and ordered my Nikon SB-800 through them today. Speedlight + EMS delivery AUD$472.00, not bad, I'm happy.
Poon is quite helpfull but had to ask a couple of times to get answers for some of my questions.
Paid via Paypal and he said item should take 3 - 4 days.
So I'll keep you all updated on my progress and at the end I will either recommend HKsupplies or not

Woody...you are brave...we are all watching and waiting, we nervous little Nellies who covet the SB800. I gotta say...I used Birddogs SB800 and it impressed the hell out of me. The designers are all destined to win the Nobel prize.
Good Luck!

Woody,
you'll be allright! Mr. Poon treats their customer very well and he earned his good reputation on eBay.
I have deal with him before and I can give you my assurance about his store.

I'm still procratinating on this one myself... almost went ahead and bought from digitalrev, but none in stock... so I'm keen to see how you go with Mr Poon !!!
I take it that to pay by paypal you had to register in ebay giving all manner of identifying info? Maybe I'm just a little unjustifiably paranoid about that sort of thing... how did that part go?
Michael.

Michael.
I registered Paypal with my CC and email address + my PO box as my address.
And keyed in the verification number on your CC statement, that's it!

Mj, the site says you can pay by credit card. I have a Mastercard that I only use for overseas stuff - if anything goes wrong, I can cancel it straight away without the drama of losing my usual card - if all that makes sense.
I also noticed that Digital Rev has the SB 600 but not the 800 - hopefully that will change soon. In the meantime, let's see how the Poonerator goes with Woody.
(And if Birdy says Mr Poon is the goods, he probably is)

Well I paid yesterday about 3pm and have sent an e-mail for conformation...
No reply....
This is ok though, I will start worrying if I don't have a reply (confirmation of receipt and postage of goods) by COB tomorrow.
Can you tell I still don't trust this online / different country stuff

Relax Woody.
I've been buying stuff on line for years without any problems.
Was stressing a while back when I bought some items from Colombia, but used Escrow to be on the safe side & everything went fine.
Took 2 days for items to arrive from Colombia to Sydney & another 10 days to reach Newcastle...
The courier (FedEx) mistook Elermore Vale for Eleanora Heights...
They refunded the shipping charge..
Arek
PS. I also noticed quite a few HK sellers are not that quick with email replies. But they ship VERY quickly.

True...
I just hate it when you get e-mail replys within the hour when you are enquirying about something and then you pay your money and don't hear from them for 2 days.
This is not intended to be a negative view on HKSupplies (yet), there could be a good reason they have not e-mailed me, I would have just liked some sort of confirmation that's all.

I agree. Did they say they would email you with a confirmation?
Either way, a gentle follow up would not be unreasonable at this stage. In my view.

No.
There is a little bit of a language barrier when dealing with Mr Poon.

I know it is wrong, and possibly culturally insensitive, but I smile every time I see "Mr Poon"

Sorry.
The FedEx truck runs Windows 95 and suffered a major GPF on the way to your house.
The dashboard turned into a
BSOD, leaving no survivors.
Am I a cruel bastard, or what?
Hopefully it'll be safely in your hands before you know it!

Hmmm, I wonder what this parcel on my desk could be.... Woohoo it's my SB-800 flash
Okay so now for my impressions:
1. Price is right
2. Delivery took 3 days from Hong Kong (well actually only took less than 24 hours but they didn't post it until 2 days later)
3. There is a little bit of a language barrier when dealing with Poon, however it is no ways bad. I found you just needed to ask a couple of times before you got all your questions answered. Maybe best to only ask one question per e-mail
4. I would ask for a confirmation e-mail to be sent BEFORE you pay the goods. Just for your own well being
5. Come on... Let me go and play with my flash....
Summary - 5 Stars... I knew Birddog could not steer me wrong

Hi,
1/ Mr Poon won't ship the order until he see the real $$$ into his bank account, even the confirmation from Paypal does not mean anything to him, and it takes 24 hrs turn around time.
2/ I knew that he got number of huge email that he needs to reply and he's doing this job by himself, apart from the online ordering he has eBay store too.
3/ I had deal with him before in many occassions and one of them with the value is closed to AU$3000.00, I was relax and stay still until the FeDex truck in front of my door with no question, he normally emailed the tracking number once the order shipped.
Hope you'll enjoy the SB-800

Birddog,
Yep, understand all these things that's why I gave 5 stars (can't get better in my books).
I just wanted to point out to other people ordering for the first time (and that might be a little nervous) what to expect.
Just went and bought some batteries... let the games begin.

That's what I did and it all worked out. I payed via PayPal (not sure if there is much need for this or not?).
No more special instructions just do it and enjoy your flash when you get it.
Tell the Poon I sent you

Yep... did that this morning with no response yet... Mr Poon probably has mountains of correspondance so that didn't concern me... however the paypal process required me to add the delivery charge which I don't know and gave me an option to request a total price from the store... so I sent that... guess I can't complete the transaction till he sends me the info.

Hi Guys
After following this thread, I too placed an order today with HKSupplies. As soon as I paid via PayPal, I sent an email to Mr. Poon with the transaction ID. Approximately three (3) hours later, I received an email back confirming the order has been shipped and I was also provided a tracking number to track the item should I wish to do so.
I did not have any problems with Mr. Poon as far as the language barrier.
Overall, I am very impressed with the service and will be ordering my SB-800 from HKSupplies upon receipt of this order (I need some time to save up some more money).
Cheers

Ok... received an ebay email this morning confirming shipping etc...
A price of 179 + 20 GBP which looks to be about $493.
Seems the prices must jump around somewhat or maybe the x-rate has... anyway... time to pay and wait for the magic arrival !!!

Thanks Birddog... I have done exactly that. In the meantime I've gone ahead and paid... have a wedding to shot in the near future and can't wait much longer for the flash. If it ends up costing me an extra $20 so be it.
I just think it useful to share experiences and issues in doing these transactions with the group.

Hi All,
I emailed Mr Poon the link of this thread, to let him know that we're happy with his services so far and asking him to look after our members in any purchases that the community may come along in the future. So he's awared of the present of our community now and you can be proud to quote yourself from D70users.com so he'll pay more attention with your purchases.
P.S: I have no affiliated with his biz nor any profits margin from his sales and services. Just want to help.
