Anyone had any dealings with Georges Electronics in Sydney CBD?

Had negotiations, never dealings. Hit and run types not really a trader who wants to develop long term relationships

Whenever I'm in one of their stores, I get the feeling that I'm in an aquarium, and it's almost feeding time for the sharks.

I remember when I was shopping for my D70 almost a year ago to the day, I walked in there...Gary's comment about the sharks is quite accurate. I wanted to have a hold/play of the camera and when I walked out without buying it they were pretty disgusted and annoyed. I have promised myself never to buy from them . They have a VERY hard sales pitch, not one I'm favourable too in the slightest. Hope this helps
On the flip side of the coin I'm sure there are people that have had a good customer experience from the shop!?! Maybe.

I go in there for a laugh every know and then. It cheers me up.
There is one bloke in there who knows what he's talking about. i think the rest are just sales people.

That's how I feel about Tandy/Radio Shack stores. Comedy relief, and nothing more.

And that would be you, the customer.

Remember when Dick Smith Electronics used to staffed by electronic/computer/radio enthusiasts, before they got bought out by Wollworths? As soon as Woolies moved in, they staffed the stores with anyone who would work for minimum wage and could spell their own name correctly in 3 attempts or better
This conversation took place about 4 years ago between myself and a DSE Sales Droid:
ME: Hi, I need a PL-259.
Sales Droid: What's a PL-259?
ME: It's the connector that you attach to the antenna cable of a CB Radio.
SD: What's a CB radio?
I kid you not............

What's a CB radio?
Isn't that one of those antique mobile phones? It had SMS too except it was called M.O.R.S.E.

Gentlemen,
thanks for the responses.
Following the comments about inappropriate advice in shops - a salesman in Teds in Sydney CBD insisted very strongly that you shouldn't clean a sensor with a blower - the only thing to use, he insisted was beer gas, as he smiled triumphantly and walked away a week or two ago.
Oh OK, I guess I'd better not buy that blower ...uh thanks.....
Then at a more recent seminar the Canon rep for professional photographers in Sydney confirmed that all he could really recommend, apart from a professional service, was using a blower.
Of course the net is worse than shops for well meaning but wrong advice from friendly amateurs - as anyone who's read Fredmiranda's lens reviews closely would have realised.
And gentlemen thanks, too, for the reminder of my amateur radio days (before the net took my attention). Ham? No, spam!

i was in Georges the other day and i noticed they had a lens i wanted and i had been price matching for a few days now. I asked the sale person the price. He confirmed with the manager and advised me the RRP. I told him that price is like 6yrs ago, and thats its about 400-500 cheaper nower days. The manager laughed and said i had no idea and he knows what he is talking about. I told him to go for a walk and see what the other camera stores are selling them for. He said his store is professional camera store and not a bargin basement joint. i told him he is living in a wonderland and the only reason he is making money is travellers dont know better and think they are saving money because of duty free. i walked out laughing.

I went in one day to enquire as to the price and availability of the D70 remote control. They had a couple and wanted $50 each for them. I then walked around to Ted's camera store and purchased one for $29.50.
