You can but you are talking about the shutter speed and not the flash speed - you will find that you can take perfect pics at very slow shutter speeds.
The flash speed itself is in the order of milliseconds ![]() Chris

Steve - the flash output is a complex equation related to aperture and speed. If using the manual flash mode the speed of the flash output varies between 1/1050 sec at 1/1 thro 1/41600 sec at 1/128 output.
The main problem you will have is the actual useage of flash to capture the kind of activity you wish to photograph. The flash output can be quite blinding and could cause an acident ![]() Chris

I thought of that...at 1/1 the flash is VERY bright I found that at 1/32, in the store i was getting a fast rate of shots with not too much exposure from the flash that shouldnt blind em ![]() anything wrong with this???Much cheaper than Teds they quoted me $849 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nikon-SB-800-SB8 ... dZViewItem

Steve,
Congrats on the purchase ![]() There's nothing wrong with the flash sync ![]() ![]() If you want a sample of bike pics, have a look at the downhill MTB race I went to photograph on Sunday http://www.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=8514 Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
Steve,
You could always buy a D2X to go with your SB-800, that way you can use Auto FP High-Speed Sync to set shutter speed values between 1/60 to 1/8,000 sec. 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
Hi stuart is this a setting on the d2x or the the sb800? i want flash sync with a shutterspeed of 1/4000
He posted the link of the trader couple posts before your post. Birddog114

Wendell, It is a setting on the D2X....go to custom setting e1 and change the flash speed sync to "1/250(Auto FP)". Your upper limit is now 1/8000s Stuart 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
