Oz Day FireworksI will be going to the local fireworks on Thurs.
Because I think the section will only be relatively short what apertures and/or exposure times should I be looking at. Do I need to take me tripod. Any advice would be most welcome. Barry D700, 50 1.8, 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200VR, 80-400VR, SB800 plus a lot of gadgets
Hi Barry,
I'd recommend a tripod because you probably will have exposure times of anything between 2 and 10 seconds. The aperture (and I'm not so sure here) could probably be f 11 and higher ? HTH, CD
there are several threads on this board concerning photographing fireworks, it would be worth running a search here and see what comes up.
essentially a tripod will be very handy to have. a quote from an older post I made once:

If you still have questions after doing the search don't hesitate to ask, but most of the infomation has been covered. Looking forward to seeing your shots posted after Australia day.
Barry, i have tried this method as well, not that we have a lot down here but have set camera to like 15 to 30 sec and held a hat over the lens and taken it away for a few seconds while there is a big burst and recovered till the next one, works well. Have fun.
Good if you want to get lots of burst in a single shot sim to this but we have poxy fireworks down here. D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

Not the best of shots Barry, but gives you an idea anyhow. down here in the country when we have them and go for like a 5 mins the most so always hard to get anything decent.
