Cameras total frame countI know this topic has been discussed before but I would like some help in determining how many shots my D70 has taken. I use elements latest version that reads NEF files and under the EXIF data it says DSC_9945 or something close. I was sure I had it nailed until I looked at an old set of D70 photos I took in 2004 and each of the files renumbered at 1. I think I reset the camera to take a continous frame count from that point which means I am now not sure that DSC_9945 is accurate.
Q1. Is the DSC_XXXX my cameras no of photos taken or is there another way of using elements or something else to determine this? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I searched for this info in the search engine on this site but couldnt locate it...probably due to me not using the correct search terms (so I have admitted my weaknesses) Peter Mc Nikon & Olympus
Opanda Exif View, when viewing with the advance tab will show how many shutter actuations your D70 has done. (I usually shoot a jpeg as its easier then doing it to the NEF).
Peter. It's not part of Elements, it's a shareware download. You can get it here:

Thanks John & Craig
Got it. I'm over 12K. I'm averaging about 1 good photo per thousand. Remember film. It would have cost me at $3.95 per 24 film for 12K photos $1975.00. This looks like a great argument to purchase something using the 'cost saving' argument as I am out of all the others. Thanks very much for your help. That Opanda Exif is amazing. Happy Sunday Eve. whereabout is the advance tab, can't seem to find the shutter count anywhere

Touché!
Don't worry - I have answered my own question.
You cannot read this data for the D100 with this program but I just learnt that you can with the D200!!!! My D200 is now only 1 day old so it only reads 24 shots - isn't that nice!!!
Thanks! Yes, it's very exciting. Just waiitng on the 70-200VR to arrive at Birddog's and I'll be set
24 pics won't last long anyway. I have a wedding on in 2 hours - only about 3 hours work but tomorrow I have a wedding to photograph for approx 10 hours!!!! LOOK OUT
Baphist by fire for the new camera, sounds like you are going to have a busy few days, once you've recovered I'd love to see some of your PP shots from the new camera.
Should be the same as the D70, Use Opanda and the Advanced view.
Actually you can also check the total shutter actuations with photoshop (works with CS2, don't know about other versions).
Open your .NEF in PS, goto File > File Info... > Advanced > click the plus next to "http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux/" and the actuations are next to "aux:ImageNumber: " No need for the Opanda program :)
Thanks Six, it works tried it out.

A few tips designed to get the count up.
If your D70 does 3fr per second and you set it on the lowest res & qual you should be able to take 259,200 photos in a day providing of course you have a really big flash card and can change it in a split second. And your battery doesnt go flat and you dont get bored and you have no real life...I dare you Maths section (3x60x60x24) Opanda is great. Peter Mc Nikon & Olympus
Isn't the D70's shutter rated at 100,000 exposures?
