Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 635Hi
Going to give an Yashica 635 a run this week. Can I use my D80 as a lightmeter. Dont have a proper lightmeter So are the steps dial in iso to D80, set aperture as on the 635 take a shot of the scene - transfer shutter speed to 635 and take shot? Is it that simple. Was going to bracket as well for the first couple of rolls. Is it that simple? (this is in the ABQ forum ) D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 635You can do that. Just be aware that some of those old cameras may have sticky or slow shutters or apertures so if your results are a bit off then just make the appropriate compensation to the exposure.

Re: Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 635Thanks. I am just having a bit of fun to see if it works.

Re: Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 635You may have to take the focal length of the lenses into consideration. For example if you have a wide angle lens on the D80, it may include a bright light such as the sun in its field of view, which will have some influence to the exposure. This may not be the case on the 635 if its lens has a different focal length.

Thanks phillipb. I had thought about that and was planning on using an 18-70dx on the D80 in the first instance @ 70mm. The 635 has an 80mm lens. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 63570mm on the 635 is equivalent to 50mm in the 35mm world. It may be easier to visually try to match what you see in the viewfinder on both cameras using the zoom lens on the D80.

Re: Using D80 as a light meter for a Yashica 635While I am asking questions, can anyone suggest a good place to develop? Around Sydney CBD?
