Monitor (Dell LCD) help please!!!

just uploaded the e-mail ordering service from my favourite (process and print) lab as their digital service is also highly rated, it was time to send off for my first digital print.......

their blurb gets into monitor settings - at a basic it recommends turning the colour temp dowm to 6500 from typical factory settings of 9300. Apparenly 6500 is a closer approximation to looking at a relected light image - ie reading a page,as opposed to the monitor image which is projected light - and therefore gives a far better sense of the final print you'll see

made complete sense to me, easy enough thinks i - no Spyders and such involved - but i cant find such an adjustment on my monitor, only thing i have been able to do is reduce brightness from 100 to 0....

anyone come across this / fixed it or have i bought myself a 'duff' monitor ?

still ordered the print as a trial though .......

Good luck. LCD's (and Dells notoriously for their slow refresh rates) are near impossible to calibrate to a printer. The only way you will get close is to get a test print and eyeball your monitor to match. LCD's just don't compare to CRT's when it comes to graphics. Oh, and I have 2 Dell LCD's, desktop and laptop.

Thanks Andy - TBH - having ploughed throught the screens own menu and everything i could find on 'control panel' without joy i figured the answer would be in the negative - but i had to ask just to be sure!

Serves my right for buying on looks (and space saving)
Bit of a bummer though only learning about the whole camera / monitor / printer calibration thing after i/d invested my hard earned but there you go..........another life lesson learned.

Will give your trial print method a go, failing that its time for a 2nd hand CRT - 21" would be nice
