Newbie to Digital

Hi guys,

I've finally taken the plunge and bought a D70, having used an F70 for the past year or so (and a Minolta X700 for close to 20 years). I have a very long list of questions and this forum looks like a great place to get the answers... :D

The single biggest issue facing me at the moment is trying to get my head around what I need to do with my images after I capture them. Can any of you point me in the direction of an FAQ or a good beginners tutorial for digital workflow?

At the moment, the only software I have is Picture Project and Photoshop 6. Is this all I need to start working on RAW images?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Hi Andrew
welcome to the Forum.
There are so many places to go for valuable learning (this place is one of them).

Perhaps as your first port-of-call, try http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/index.shtml

This is the tutorials section. There are other areas which also have great info on dSLR's and Post Processing (PP)

Once you've finished there, come on back and ask some questions...or go on another search for knowledge.

Enjoy.... :D

Cheers

I think you can get away in Picture Project and Photoshop6...

However I've been told that Nikon View (free download) is better than Picture Project.

...And if you don't mind paying then you can't go past Nikon Capture for RAW conversion.

...And if you don't mind PAYING there is always Photoshop CS2.....

Thanks Paul. What are the advantages of Nikon Capture over Nikon View or Picture Project? Also, I can make RAW conversions in PS6. Is there anything in Nikon View that PS6 doesn't do?

I've never used Nikon View so I'm not exactly sure... I've just heard many people say it's a better product than Picture Project...

Nikon Capture offers you complete control over every aspect of your RAW file.

I didn't know you could convert RAW in Photoshop6. I think the RAW conversion in PS6 is probably very limited compared to both Photoshop CS2 and Nikon Capture (if you do a search on Google you can find heaps of info about both programs)

Good luck

Paul
