Hi you all, as I told youse b4 im new to digital fotografy, but i sometime get these spots on my snaps. Do youse guys clone stuff liked this away or am I doing sumthing wrong? Should I use the hood?

I only has a D70s + std lens, no extra lens at all.

Wally, it's probably what's known as a dust bunny. Small bits of dust get onto the camera's sensor. You can clone them out but sooner or later you'll get sick of them and need to clean the sensor. You can do a dry clean with air from a blower (Giottos Air Rocket or similar) or a wet clean. Never done a wet clean myself, but a search of this site will tell you about it.

I think there is an active group of DSLR members in Adelaide, so might be worth contacting some of them and going along to one of their meets where you could probably see these cleaning techniques demonstrated.

mmm... not sure this is a dust bunny... would be worth giving the sensor and the lens (both ends) a quick blow clean to check... I can only see one spot in this shot... is it always in the same place?

another possibly is that it is the result of a little flair... the hood would help with this... the other possibility is that is is a fault with coating on the lens... but do not panic yet !!!

start by making sure the lens is clean... then give the sensor a blow... if after either of these cleanup attempts the spot has not at least moved you might need to get someone to have a closer look.

Ta Mj and johnd i think its not dust probably sun spots on the lenss or i thourt it mite be a sensor thing. i got a blower thingo from james place cameras so mite try it. here is nother shot youse can see thes spots r in difrent spots, in the sky in thee left

Wally, it looks like lens flare. Use the hood and keep it in mind when you are shooting towards the sun.

In the interests and clarity and effective communication, we are going to need to do a tiny bit of work on your spelling. I know that isn't the main requirement for a photographer (luckily for some members here), but it can't hurt.

I can see youse are gunna have some fun together. Wally. There are a number of literary masterpieces/classics that use spelling in the same way U do. Greg just hasn't read them yet.

Interestingly, YOUSE is in the dictionary, albeit an American one.

The word has been used by a close friend of mine for years (an Aussie) and when I took him to task, he said it was in the dictionary. It is an archaic word.

I'm in agreement with this. The mere fact that a word exists, or is published in a dictionary, is not an exhortation that it be used. That would be akin to suggesting that because Sigma lenses are made to fit Nikon bodies, they should be so mounted upon one.

Back to the issue though, I assume it's flare due to the color of the spot, I thought dust bunnies would usually just ge a grey'ish artefact

The direction of the shadows doesn't suggest you're shooting into the sun enough to get flare though, so I'm a smidge confused (although that's not unusual)... And just the single consistent blue spot too???

When you say standard lens, which is that? I couldn't get EXIF from the images here... Also are you using any filters on the lens?

Yeah, was wondering whether it was the 18-70DX kit lens or 18-55 maybe???

When I've experienced flare on my 18-70 I've usually got the multi-colored ones assumedly due to the multi-coatings on the lens... That's why I was intrigued with the single blue spot... Maybe I just don't understand the reasons flares happen?

I'd suggest that while it might be OK to use texting shorthand on a mobile phone for reasons of economy, here it's better etiquette to use the slightly longer form of the language (things like "you are" instead of U R) since there is not such a restriction on the size of your message. Additionally for old fogeys like me and many others here the texting shorthand can be a BIG distraction from the content of your postings.

Of course U R free 2 disregard this plea, but it would gr8 if U didn't - K

And back on topic - like Andrew, these spots are a puzzle to me. How many of your shots have the spot? All of them or just some. If all of them I'd say you may have a problem with your equipment. They don't look like lens flare to me, but if they are only on a few shots then that's probably what they are.

Hi Mudder its jus the lens wich comes with it the af-s nikkor 18-70 1:3.5-4.5g ed i have a few other shots with flair in them wich i took in the city - lots have sunn in them so thats probly the problim - most snaps are sweet

ta subbsy for the heds up - i dun way tooo much texting so will make sure i rite long here its not jus yoo - peeple at work complain my email is hard to read they even sudgested i do an english corse - i larfed at them coz i am ozzie an all those corses are wat we send forigners tooo don worry you can say anything to me -i am wat my boss calls a rowbust caracter
