Here my new years newbie question!

While I know about actions, and you can download them etc... and they can create borders, or do batch resize, sharpen etc..


Can I make an action that makes a thin black border, adds a (c) Craig Goldsmith in the RHS corner (spaced nicely from the closest edge) and also rights a (c)Craig Goldsmith to the Exif data ?

I want to share some of my shots from at work, but some have been sneaky and used them "as their own" and posted them elsewhere etc...

So I wanted to at least make it hard work for them to do it, for my NYE fireworks shots.

(Please bear in mind, I'm still complete arse at Photoshop...)

Craig yes you can create an action to do the first two, however I am not sure about the last one.

Craig, the first two yes. The one with exif data I shouldn't think so

but

it is my understanding you can do this in camera in the comments field. Haven't done it myself but I am sure others have.

I'd imagine you could with the EXIF data, but you'd essentially be choosing between one of two types of data stored in the XMP files for EXIF, Adobe's standard description information or the ITPC Contact section.

Whether this will adhere to the image without the XMP file, I don't actually know.

Do you record actions, as you would a say a macro ?

Hit record, do the series of steps and then hit stop, and save it ? Or is there a different process ?

That's how I've always recorded actions.

not sure about your photoshop question, I use The Gimp and have a border tool in there that does just that.

On the EXIF side, exiftool will work on Windows, have a look at:

I also remember reading about various Windows exif tools. Not sure if it was in the forums here.

What I have done on my camera is changed the comment field with:
(c)Andre Joanisse. Won't help now but will for the future.

That way, it is already there in the EXIF data, no need to add later. If you don't know how to do this, let me know and I'll get the instructions on the thread.

Thanks Andre, I do know how to add the comment field on camera (just have remember to turn it on and off (for challenges..), but thanks for the link to the Gimp software, I'll have a look at it!

Hi Craig,

exiftool also allows you to remove/blank fields. Basically, I have the comment always on in the camera. With the challenge photos, I use exiftool to remove the comment field.

So even if you forget to turn it off prior to taking a photo, you can remove later in PP

Do you have CS2 with Adobe Bridge??? If so, then you can edit the IPTC fields for multiple images in Bridge. That would allow you to add your copyright to multiple images.
Yes, you record actions just like you would a macro in other programs... Create a new action set for your own actions and create a new action within that... Anything to perform in Photoshop after that will become part of the macro. Be sure to include a save and close command at the end of the action, otherwise you will be left with umpteen open images in Photoshop.
You can run the action on multiple images from Bridge...

Otherwise, look for a suitable action at http://atncentral.com or http://share.studio.adobe.com/ - there's a strong chance that someone else will have already made an action that does roughly what you want...

Thanks everyone, I stuffed up my first few attempts but in the end got the job done.. if somewhat unprofessionally... I'll refine my action at a later date, but I was able to share my photos with work mates, so I'm happy!
