Hi guys trying to do a B&W conversion of a few pics and my when i click file save or save as and i try to open the format choices box to click on jpeg it only opens with 3 options which are PSD,PSB or RAW.Does anyone know why this is??>
I have noticed that some of my Raw shots are titled DSC_ and some are _DSC can somebody please tell me the difference???. Thanks Stephen

Stephen, You will need to convert to 8-bit mode before you can save as a JPG. Use the menu path: Image--> Mode --> 8-bit... Once you have done this, photoshop will present you with a whole lot more options for filetypes... Choose JPG and away you go...

Hi John i tried this but to no avail it only seems to block me out after i use the IMage-mode-lab, to split the channels and i delete the two bottom channels to get a nice B&W ??>i got this tip from the Hints and tips section??.Which way do you guys do a B&W conversion ??.Thanks Stephen

You probably need to flatten the image before saving as JPG or something, but I've never used LAB so I'm not sure...

I usually do my B&W conversions using the Channel Mixer, clicking the monochrome box and then playing around with the Red, Green & Blue levels to get the desired contrast.... The easy way is to simply fully desaturate the image, but that doesn't give you any control over the colour mix.

You may need to convert back to RGB or Greyscale to save in JPEG. I would suggest sRGB for web viewing or aRGB for printing.

I use the black and white plug in from Fred Miranda. Its quick and effective.

Killa, thanks for that ,Its Mattk way that im using but as soon as i do that it will not let me save it as a jpeg???.Has anyone else had this problem or maybe im doing something wrong?.
Just an update i was doing something wrong found out how to save it now YAhhhhhh
