circular polarising filter

in bright blue sky beach conditions I played around with a CPL yesterday on my kit lens. when downloaded and in RAW state there was a noticeable hazy/spotty/washed out section running across the horizon just above the waterline.
this wasnt evident in the jpegs tho

any explanations why this happened (CPL was on 'darkest' setting)

do you have a sample image to show ? kind of hard to figure out what you mean without an example.

I was hoping it might be a common issue (not requiring an image) that us rookies are not aware of - also I am on dial up and still developing a qucik workflow getting images onto the web.


I'll get back soon..just have to dig one up but once I transfer to a jpeg will probably lose the effect anyway.

I did find out I had a bad case of dust bunnies tho - - the CPL and small aperture made sure of that! now have to research another area.

it doesnt show up so much here as I thought but I only cropped a small section to protect the identity of the subject ....- a lot more wash out/messy colour is evident in the RAW files.

I was just curious as to what causes it..and try top avoid it down the line.

at least I found out that I had dust on the CCD!!!
