Framing Your Photos

Just wondering if anyone can help me with a few simple questions regarding framing prints.

1. I have an 8"x10" print ready to frame. The frame I have chosen has a matte with an 8"x10" cutout. The print only overlaps the matte by 1mm or less on each side.
How do I hold the print in the correct spot?

2. The frames have a glass front. Is it better to use gloss or matt prints?

Thanks,
Brad

Brad a 1mm overlap is not much, but any sort of sticky tape (preferably the easy to remove sort) will do the trick.

I've found this little framing tutorial which was helpful. It has a few good tips.

I'm very interested in the response here as well. I'm about to have some 8 x 10 printed to be framed also. Gloss or Matt?

Greencardigan, where did you pick up your frames from? I'm finding frames that have outside diameter of 8 x 10 with a picture hole of 5 x 7.

Cheers

Gloss or Matt is the choice of the photographer and how he wants his work presented. Eg a b&W of my wife I printed matt, a landscape with lots of fine detail I printed gloss

A simple solution I use is first glue your photo to a sheet of thin cardboard, manilla folder or similar works ok,then cut the cardboard about 10mm larger than the photo. This gives something to hold and work with.

I use spray adhesive for the glue job.

I picked up a variety of frames from my local Rabbit photo.

The frame I was talking about has an 8x10 picture hole. Not sure what the outside dimensions are.

I got my prints done at Rabbit as well. I asked for glossy but the 2 larger prints I got were done on matt. I think the matt prints still look OK if they are behind glass.

I just use sticky tape..

AS for frames I just use the ones from Crazy Clarkes/Clints/Wharehouse/Sollies?2 DollarShop ect..

The one below had car pics in it 10x8 took them out put in the 2 I printed. The cheapes usually have a few frames so you can get ones to match. These cost $13 each

I ended up using photo tape to stick the photos to the backing board then stick the matte to the backing board.

I'm quite happy with the results.
