G'day

I am slowly getting used to the D70S but there's still lots I don't know about and as part of that process I'm sure I've fiddled with settings I don't understand nor need to have changed.

I am fairly sure that this is *new* behaviour by the camera but now a number of images have high exposure areas (over exposed?) that flash in B + W on the LCD.

Does this mean
1) the camera is broken?
2) I've set something that perhaps I should unset?
3) this is *normal* behaviour and I shouldn't worry

Normal. You have set the menu to show you the areas that might be overexposed. You can turn it off by using the rocker switch when you are previewing the image. It is not a feature often used. Much better to leave it set to show the histogram.

Yeah, it's a setting that you can access when viewing images on the LCD. When you select up or down, that's to view the previous/next image. When you select left or right, you cycle between (from memory) just viewing the images, show overexposed highlights, histogram, details page 1 (ie: shutter speed, date etc), details page 2. The camera remembers this setting, and you can change it any time you want while viewing images fullscreen (ie: not tiled in thumbnails)

Yet one more thing I've learnt today.

All I need to do now is learn just one more thing then I can give up for the day and sit in the corner with a bottle (or two).
