Lighting Set Up HELP!

Postby Alex on Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:44 pm

Hi all,

I need advice on lighting set up.

I’ve been asked by my employer (a chem lab) to take photos of some products placed in glass vessels (measuring cylinders).

Some one like Chris (Sirch555) will be most knowledgable about this as he knows what a measuring cylinder is (being a chemist) and he shoots similar products all the time. :-)

I presume I will need a light tent and a set of lights. Since my employer will be paying for the set up, I do not need to go cheap (bunnings sort of lights) and would be happy to buy professional lighting set up for this kind of work.

My questions are as follows:

1. What exact set up is recommended? I.e. light tent (any particular model/ brand), and, most importantly lights (what kind, power)
2. How would you place the lights outside the tent? Is it normally at 45 degrees each to the product?
3. The photos will be printer at 180 dpi and need to be 40 x 40 cm. I guess D70 will allow that, otherwise I can upsample with something like genuine fractals, right?

EDIT: forgot to mention. Is it possible to use a black cardboard as a background inside the tent?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Regards

Alex
