SOS!!!!

:shock: :?: :shock: I shoot my photos in RAW (NEF.)
I am new to photoshop CS2, last week all I had to do was save as...to make the file JPEGs to take the camera shop to get printed...but now for some unknown reason the JPEG extention doesn't come up :?: :?: :shock: :!:

Can anyone tell me what I have done and MORE to the point how I can FIX what I what done :!:

You need to change your image to 8 bits. You can't save 16 bit images as jpeg. Go to Image/Mode/8 bits per channel. You can set Adobe Camera Raw to either 8 or 16 as a default. You must have changed it to 16.

My way of learning :? is playing around...some times I forget that I have changed a setting and after awhile passes this happens :oops: :oops:

You can save as TIF format in 16 bit and most print-shops accept that format as well... It might make for a higher quality image...

John,
I am changing over files now to get printed in the morning. I will make a few of them TIF and see how they come out. Thanks for the tip

Actually John, I know from some friends who work at various imaging print houses around Sydney that they'll charge extra to convert from a 16-bit file to an 8-bit.

It's ridiculous I know but as a suggestion, I'd convert all your images to 8-bit just in case.

Good advice, Leek, except that sometimes the 16bit TIFF files are just too big for the shops to handle (if they aren't pro labs).
