Vignetting?

Vignetting?

Postby Nikkofan on Tue May 16, 2006 3:57 pm

I apologise if this somewhere else already in the forum, but I can't find it! I've got notes on how to vignette an image in Photo Shop (I'm using CS2), but I must have missed something while taking the notes down, because I've been playing around with it for quite a while this afternoon and can't get it to work.

Can anyone tell me the straightforward way to get vignetting within CS2?

The instructions I've got are:

- Select centre in circle
- feather the image
- using levels, make corners darker, but don't overdue it

Help Please??? (before I go completely mental trying!)

Thanks!

Between select centre and feather I think you should be selecting the inverse, so you get the outside of your circle or oval.

In my leaf thread (I'll find it, I got plenty of help with PP vignetting).

1) Select centre of the image
2) inverse the selection
3) feather the selection
4) use levels

Just did it then and it worked....

Good luck

Thanks Craig & Paul

I've been playing with the Inverse as well, but no luck. Perhaps I didn't quite follow the right steps in the right order.

Will try again.

Many thanks for your help! Much appreciated!

Do you have layers in the image you are playing with? Make sure you're selecting a layer with image info on it (not an adjustment layer or something similar)

This is the method i use:

new layer
fill layer with black
select oval marquee tool and click and drag from one corner to opposite corner
select inverse
feather 200-250 if on a full sized image (Varies)
click the layer mask tool
vary the opacity of that layer

Cheers,
Owen.

Thats the same method I use as per PSCS2 for digital photographers, works a treat.
Are we there yet?

There's an excellent set of video tutorials on the Radiant Vista website. Best of all, they're completely free. Look at this page. The tutorial at the top (Ed from Sacramento) shows you how to create a vignette (among other things).
