A couple of mates have asked me to go out the pines and get some shots of them driving their machines cutting down trees etc... Has anyone had any experience taking photos in a pine forrest or something similar. Any tips advice ect.. would be great. thanks

Hi,
All I can tell, pine forest could be quite dark especially in a dull and even in a bright day and you'll need shutter speeds like 1/10 or 1/15. So, Have a tripod or, at least, a monopod with you

In a forest, you're going to get horrible lighting conditions. Deep shadows and bright sunlight. If you're lucky, it'll be a darkish overcast day so the differences are minimised, but then you'll need slow shutter speeds. If you are going to be reasonably close then you can simply blast the subjects with a flash (external would be best, the onboard flash can't handle it IMO). Otherwise you'll need a tripod (and hope the people you're taking photos of aren't moving very much
Good luck!

With the cutting down bit, they'd be at the edge of the tree line wouldn't they? If they are you'd get more ambient light than under the canopy.

BBJ would be the guy to ask, he lives down there and covers that event all the time.

My advice is to keep a very sharp eye out for falling trees

My advice is if you see the bloke with the chainsaw yelling "RUN" I suggest you run.
