I am really fascinated on the pictures posted by other members here…vivid colors , sharp etc…I just wonder if they use adobe apps such as photoshop cs, elements etc. to produce awesome output?

You should be able to get pretty much any decent photo editing program to push colours in a photo.

That said, a lot of it will always come down to the shot and the photographer's skill (or luck in some cases).

so most of the shots taken are edited from the softwares thats why most of the pixs are awsome, i was thinking that its just on the camera settings aperture and shutter. do we really need to do edit it just to make it nice...what happened to photographers skills? most of us are not graphic artist like i do.

The real answer to your question depends on how you shoot. If you shoot jpeg then in camera settings will make your image look different to if you took the same image bit saved it in a RAW format (Nikon NEF or Canon CRW).

If you shoot jpeg and have set your camera up to meet your needs, you may not need to post process the image. If you shoot raw (and there are a lot of reasons to do so - just search for more on that) then you WILL need to post process the image in a graphics package.

Good photographers made many prints in the darkroom varying exposure time, dodging/burning/croping, coloured filters ect... to obtain the best possible print of their image.

Surely it could be said that the modern digital photographers darkroom would be post proccessing So IMHO if your not pp'ing your shots then your only doing half the job. Take the time to learn some form of pp program, they are not that hard to use...

I thought it was regarding whether people used Adobe apps for PP or whether they used something else.

Personally I use some Adobe apps (Photoshop CS2, Lightroom [a bit], and InDesign CS2 [for book layouts]) combined with non-Adobe software (e.g. iView MediaPro for file/image management). But that's because I've found a workflow that works for me. It's efficient, allows me to cope with thousands of images per shoot if necessary, and provides a consistent quality I'm happy with.

That's not to say that non-Adobe won't do a good job: before I moved to the Apple platform, GIMP and ImageMagick were my workhorses on my BSD machines.
