Hello,

How do I add a photo to a post?

I have a 3 MB image. What size should I shrink it so that its suitable for posting here?

TIA!

first of all you need to make the size a lot smaller....

resize the image to 600pixels on it's largest edge....
save the image as a jpg or png, with a quality of around 7...
the file should now be around 30k, which is a lot nicer for people viewing....

all you need to do now is have the picture stored somewhere... if you have your own webserver, piece of cake, just link to the file in your post.... otherwise, use a service like http://www.imageshack.us/ ....

cheers

Thanks xerubus!

I was wondering how I could upload an image to this forum. I was actually clicking at the buttons above and thinking that it would prompt for the source file. So I must have my own image location which this post points to.

Now that I've got a location to put an image, how do I get the image displayed in the post?

I use the Img and URL buttons, but its just a link.

Paste the url of your image into your post, then highlight the url you just pasted. Now click the Img button and it will add at either end. That's it. Click preview to see the result before you submit. You might also like to read my recent post about characters to avoid in filenames

The URL of your image must be for the graphic file itself. The url you've used is for the web page containingthe image. Normally if you right click the image & choose proerties you can get the info you need (just highlight the address URL in the properties dialog & copy to the clipboard), but I just tried & fotopic web site won't cooperate. Go to http://www.pixspot.com & sign up there. It's free & it works.
