CF card a built tougher than SD, they are bigger and will be much much easier to handle when operating under cold conditions with gloves.
SD are smaller and lighter, makes the compartment for the card smaller and can reduce camera body's size and weight.
They both perform mostly the same in terms of speed.

In terms of one being better than the other - I prefer CF cards for the fact they are in my opinion the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. They are rugged, you can drop them, step on them, throw them out of a car and they still work. Hell, in one test some guy drilled a whole through one and he was able to recover the majority of the photos on it.
Manufacturers seem to be obsessed with making everything smaller for "consumer" market products. That's why a lot of cameras use SD now. As far as I know SD and CF are similar in speed.

The D50 is SD as well. It looks like they are starting to use this storage media more. It would seem as cawdor said earlier, that they are trying to make them smaller and smaller. A phone I have, has got a mini SD slot(I bought a Sandisk one - half the size of SD - it came with a SD adaptor to use in SD devices). and I have heard of micro SD (which I think is smaller again).
Ultimately the consumers are forced to use what the products come out with I suppose ...

Soon we will end up with having SIM Card sized medium with over 100GB worth of storage....
By then, we be running on 16MP or even at 24MP on 'consumer' cameras over the MPix race over the years.

SD is pretty much used as a way to save space to lump more tech goodies in
I prefer CF as well as SD can be hard to handle when you need to change cards quickly.

SD will be the future, but I do like CF, good size for handling.

S3pro has both slots if i recall correctly.. and one of the eos 1 series too i believe
CF for me, not too small, and very rugged... SD just feels too easily damagable

I dont think that it matters, you get used to what you usee more often... neither are that delicate...

For those that care about capacity, CF cards are still bigger capacity and usally better dollars per gig. I'll be convinced when i see pro cameras coming out with SD cards in them, and SD cards matching CF on size and cost.
Note how in the bargains section here CF and SD are about thew same price, right up to 4GB. But then ooops, no 8GB SD card. Never mind, your camera wouldn't read it anyway.

SD is definitely the future ....
here is the 8GB Transcend SD card..

I guess since cameras like the EOS-1Ds MKII are coming out with SD slots you'd have to say that pro cameras DO use SD cards - in fact the fastest cards in that camera do seem to be SD cards :

The only issue I've had so far with the change over to SD cards is that the newer SD formats generally require a new card reader if your old one is more than a year or two old, but $25 won't kill me !
I just bought a 2gb SD card for $50 - and they're certainly available for $100 for 4gb, so SD cards are quite cheap too.
SD cards are stored in similar little carry containers to CF cards - the fact that they're thinner than CF cards does require more 'dexterous' handling.
Cheers

Justin,
8GB CF cards are common items, if you want the latest, greatest CF capacity you're looking at 32GB. But you're right that things do seem to be moving slowly towards SD. Which is why I'm inclined to wait another year or two before I start buying them.
