Flash diffuser

Hello just got hold of a 550EX flash.
As for diffuser, will the one being sold by Poon (I think around $4) any good or should I am for a more upmarket one that I saw for $35 (inc delivery) on ebay?

Come to one of our meets and I'll give you one.
Poon sent us some for Chrissie last year, and we still have a few at home.
And yes, they're surprisingly good.

I got one of those sock type softeners. Worked well, then I bought a $40 stoffen, and through the lens, can hardly tell the difference.
they have a nice silver reflective back, so more of the light is bounced forward, rather than behind (which improves the light if there is nothing behind you to bounce off).
For $4, give it a try.

I'd suggest going to the Sydney meet
otherwise, the lightsphere looks good, I've seen nice photographs taken using one. Anyone here use one?

Indoors, I'd use the ceiling, or walls, much softer. Outside, the Lightsphere bounces 50% of the light behind you, and is wasted, perhaps with the Chrome Dome would bounce 70-80% forward.
I'm considering the Lightsphere with Chrome Dome for outdoors.

I like the Flip-It better than the Lightsphere, as you can control amount of light bounced. Bonus is that it also folds flat (unlike the Lightsphere).

I have both the LSIIPJ with dome and the sock type. The LS2 is better, but is awfully big and clumsy compared to the sock. For convenience and price the sock is a no-brainer, everyone should have one.

i use the flipit .
I like it compact size and its vertical orientation capabilities.
It gives a nice soft lighting - see below...

Has anyone used one of
THESE before? I was at a wedding on the weekend and saw the official photographer using one at the reception (very high dark ceiling, dark coloured walls - no place to bounce anywhere).
Main advantage I see is that it folds flat so would take up less space in a bag.

I have one of
these which are basically the same thing, only probably more expensive. Anyway, they work quite well, and I actually used it this morning for photos of colleagues I needed - soft shadows.

give me a week and I'll let you know about the ones from Poon. got one on the way as I thought for $4 you cant go wrong
