When the great day comes; the 70-300 4.5-5.6 OR the 80-200 4.5-5.6 plus teleconverter.
Mostley scenery, maybe birding, grandkids at stage shows etc, tractor musiums etc.
Because I use Photoshop, A smallish 200 mm or so telephoto with a converter to get it out there is another possibility
Price is a factor, must be <700 and I wont carry around a big heavy bag. (been there done that)
Are there other options out there with Nikon lenses that I havent thought of? Leaning to 70-300, but could use input.

If this is your wish then the only lens you can achieve is the 70-300.
The 80-200 is 2.8 not 4.5 or the 80-400VR is 4.5, you only can use the Tamron TC on the 80-400VR but it won't give you any benefit in doing this same as for the 70-300.
You have to do more research on using lenses with TC.

Light weight, smallish in size, not too expensive. And your right, I have not even thought to ask if it will go on a teleconverter, I thought all lenses would go on the converters.

The 80-200 f/4.5 was released in 1995 / filter size 52mm.
