I know I have done this before but how do I disable the preflash on the D70/SB800.

In D70, go into CSM menu option, into Flash modes, instead of TTL or Commander, select Manual. Then set it down to 1/16 or your exposure's need.

In SB-800, change mode to M and set it down to 1/128 or whatever value you need for your exposure.

Also make sure you don't have red eye reduction turned on.

That was my thought as well.

Or...

Set AE-L button to FV Lock and use a manual pre-flash. This is a good way of beating people who blink every time on the pre-flash. You'll still be able to use TTL flash.
