Hi everyone, please excuse the silly question. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I cannot seem to get the file size of an image down small enough to fit the 6k limit required for an Avatar. Can someone help?
Regards
Steve

I am going out now for a few hours, but in the meantime I'm sure someone else will help if you answer this question: What software are you using?

When you are setting the export quality for the jpeg file, just turn it right down to maybe 3. Also, the maximum size of the avatar is 100x100 pixels, so crop it before exporting. (For reference, my avatar is about 1k).

As Jon has suggested get it down to 100pxl and if using
PS can use save for web to get a low byte jpeg

Ok i admit that i am presently Steve from Ryde, but before i was Steve from Ryde i was SteveK from Caboolture.
Greetings to a fellow Caboolturite.
I just had a look at your website galleries. There;'s some really nice stuff in there. I am sure i recognise one of the bridesmaids in one of the wedding photos. Then again, people look so different all dolled up like that.

I am mainly using Photoshop 6. I have resized to 100 pixels at 72 dpi and when I save the jpeg even bringing down to 2 in quality, I am still getting 45k!
I will try the save to web way and see what happens.
Killakoala - I used to be a Sydneyite, around the Bankstown area but I moved up here 12 years ago. Have not looked back since, love it up here in the sunshine state. Thanks for having a look at the site.

Back from dinner with friends at "Top Thai North" at Sans Souci. I highly recommend the King prawn spring rolls
BTW Post the image you want to use as your avatar and we'll see if we can shrink it down to size.
Can't quite remember how I shrunk a 34MB TIFF image to a 6kb avatar, but I'm sure it will come back to me.

Given the output size it looks like Photoshop is saving the EXIF data in the new thumbnail. There should be an option somewhere to leave out the EXIF data when saving.
Hope this helps.

Had the same problem. Seemed to be all of the previews that were being saved along with the image.
Try using the Save For Web option. That's what finally worked for me.
