I've heard this term used to mean 3 lenses that cover all the range you need.

  • Super-wide
  • Wide
  • Telephoto

So this term can apply to all camera brands, but perhaps the combination of lenses might be different.

I'm eagerly awaiting more info on this one. I've never heard the term before in relations to lenses.

Yep, same here. On the Nikon side I have heard the 12-24, 28-70, 70-200 referred to as the "Holy Trinity" of lenses. Now I guess it's 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200. It's a bit misleading though, you should buy the lenses you're going to use frequently and can afford. :)

It can be any combination of three lenses that suit your style. For example, a wildlife photographer might choose a 200, 400 and 600mm.

The choice is yours

I stand corrected here but I'm pretty sure the Canon "trinity" (eg the most sought after lens in their line up) is :

85/1.2
135/2
200/1.8 (now out of production)

However, I have been known to have been wrong, at least my wife tells me so, regularly ... :D

Hrmm...for some reason, I think it's:

35 1.4
85 1.2
135 2

??

Well if you're a Canon prime user - get all 5

I saw a 200 f1.8 go on ebay this week for >$3K by the Cato 1/2 of Cato and Pade......

And the 200 f2 IS -- is an amazing lens based on a couple of pics posted on another forum by a pro who has one. Looks nice in a std web res, but the crop  8)

But I like the sirhc55 version the best.

I think my trinity seems to be the Sigma 10-20, Nikkor 28-70 and 80-400 .... a diverse and wide range there :P

depends on your application...

24 / 50 / 85 is pretty much the standard wedding tog trinity if they are all primal - I know alot who swear by that combo.
