Flash in low light situation

Here's the scenario:

When i tried to take group photos at a rave/club party, my auto focus keep on adjusting because it cannot capture the subject properly. Is there a way i can adjust my camera so it can AF much faster with flash?

Your best bet under these situations is to focus manually.

If you have an external flash (SB800/600) the built in AF assist works very well in these situations. The flash helps too :)

Yes, the IR lights on the external flash units help tremendously with focusing.
