D-lighting

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. D-lighting

Can anyone tell me what exactly D-lighting does in NC? Someone mentioned before that it is exposure adjustment, but it doesn't seem as straightforward as that. I like the effect but what exactly is it?

It seems to behave like a curve adjustment, but is a lot easier to adjust. Curve adjustments can do exactly the same, but if you're not careful, unanticipated effects can occur as well, such as saturation changes and colour shifts.

I thought it was similar to curves but couldn't put my finger on it.
