A quick Question about Ai AIS Nikkors

If I use a Nikkor Ai or AIS on a D100 (or D70 i guess it is the same) does the exposure meter work?

I know I will use full manual settings but does the light exposure meter work telling I am over or under exposed?

Or do I get NOTHING?

Thanks

IIRC, AI-S lenses with chip will still retain metering. Glen with the 45/P might confirm. Older MF lenses pre-dating electronics will leave you with nothing on the D70; but on higher end bodies like the D2 series you'll still have metering and rudimentry Aperture Priority mode if you enter in the max aperture of the lens.

Anything with a chip will retain metering eg any P lens or one modified with a chip. On a D70 body, no chip means no nothing. On a D2X they will meter and anything can be made to meter by inputting the lens data. The D100 is somewhere in between and unfortunately I have no experience with it. You are welcome to swing past my place to try one of my manual lenses to see the result.

As an aside if you have a favourite manual lens you can usually have the chip placed in it at a cost.
