Macro and DOF.

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. Macro and DOF.

Alright!!! Is that sentence an oxymoron? Can I get a great DOF with my 105mm macro that say... 3mm? Seriously though. I've been playing a bit... alright a lot, with my new micro-nikkor and that damn DOF doesn't seem to change, whether I am at f/2.8 or f/40! Am I missing something? Hope not...

DOF also depends on distance to subject, so at 1:1 DOF changes a lot less than when the subject is further away.

there is a chart you got with the lens which is a really handy chart showing how DOF changes with f stop and focal point

at 1:1 repro yes, the dof even fully stopped down is narrow.... Welcome to the world of Macro!!!
