Is lens service or repair worth or not

Hi
A friend of mine had a old one touch zoom lens 80-200 f2.8 ED( non D version), in his camera the autofocus motor has a small flat blade screwdriver look alike sticking out about aprox 3 mm of the lens flange mounting of his camera (F80), and on the lens also has a screw head to match, the problem is on the lens this screw now stay inside aprox3 mm instead of flush with the mouting flange, thus the autofocus motor still work but can not move the focus ring because there is no physical connection between the autofocus motor of the camera and the screw head of the lens, manual is fine, it gave very sharp pics. Any body know where to servive this lens and is worth to fix or not, I think it is manufacture before 1990.
Thank for input.

The lens itself worth less than AU$500.00, damages bill is around AU$300.00, your judgement?

Hi BirdDog

Thank for the reply If the bill is around $300 it is clearly not worth to fix at the repair center. We'll try to open the back to see how it work at home, and if possible try to do a bit of backyard machanic. Now it is a MF lens.

Thank

You'll enjoy and experiment with the job. Keep the loosen screw in a plastic bag

Birdie is right but there is one other thing you should consider. That particular lens is a beauty throughout its entire range and to buy a similar lens new would cost about $1300. So maybe it is worth getting repaired?
