Hi,

I've noticed that on some of my photos, I get a smudge appearing. The camera is only a couple of weeks old, a D70s. I had noticed it before, and thought that it was a smudge on my 70-300mm, but I also notice it on my kit lens. Checked the lenses, don't see any smudges, and the fact that it reappears when using either lens would suggest that it is on the CCD???

Just guessing here, not sure if my next step is to send the camera in for warranty or if they would tell me it is "wear & tear", but it is only young! Not experienced enough to know.

Here is a picture I took today of a sea eagle, you can notice the smudge under its left wing.



I also took some test photos on a white wall with both lenses, the smudge appears. It is more prominent when zoomed in.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like what's called a dust bunny, a tiny spec of dust (or something like that) is on the glass filter that lies above the sensor. If not when new, it's a matter of time till you get some you can see in blue skies etc when using smaller (higher number) apertures.

You'll get heaps of good advice from members here, when you buy a camera you get one "wet" clean free during the warranty, after that they charge. I don't think it's that major a head-ache though, I change lenses and have only used a blower on mine and it's till fine since then... If what's here is a spec of dust on the filter, a quick jobbie with a blower should fix that, just be careful not to touch the thing tis all...

looks like I'll have to get myself to a Sydney mini-meet and get shown how they do the cleaning of the CCD. I'll get some cleaning supplies if Birddog still has some when I go.
