Hi Guys when i download pictures from mt card reader it goes to my recieved files in my comp then i have to go down the list to open each one .Is there a software i can use to have a quick look at each photo and see if its worth saving or throwing away?.I have cs2 installed but cant seem to open the bridge if thats what does it .Cheers Stephen

Will that open nef and jpegs or just jpegs?.

Opens all of them..... I shoot fashion and usually have 800 ish pics after a days shoot. It opens nef, does it all. Allows me to easily catalogue, view and do editing. Since I'm not a high end user of PS it allows me to do enough retouching to get by as well.....

I have just opened up bridge and this seems to do the job.Is NC as good.better as bridge?.Hudo does that mean you wouldnt use this program if you did a lot of PS?.If so why not?. Cheers Stephen

It sounds like you might be using autoplay to download pics. If that is the case, I suggest killing it from My Computer > Properties for the drive in question or with tweakui to kill autoplay permanently.
Bridge, afaik, doesn't download pics for you. Pretty useful image/file manager though. If Bridge doesn't open there is probably a problem with the installation. PSE has that neato little file transfer utility
As Glen said, give NV a go. It is possible to set up autoplay to open NV for the transfer. Personally, I don't bother. It only takes 4 clicks to start the download process.

I'm a low user of the PS features. A little touch up of the eyes, skin tones that type of stuff and PSE does all that. A recent review in a photo mag suggested PSE is all yu'll need unless you are a high end user of PS. I luv the catalogue feature of PSE.

I have some 10,000 images stored and using metadata embedded into the image file you can easily search for a image. PSE also allows you to backup all your photo's not to mention you can easily convert file and share via E-mail. it also has a few other cool share type facilities like for web sites, E-cards and making calanders ect.

I have ver III now and for a user who takes a lot of pics but isn't making $$$ from it it's a great compromise on entry price V features. You should from the adobe web site be able to downlaod a trial version.

For the quick browse through heaps o' files to find out which ones you wanna keep and which to delete is easy using nikon view, it's quick to flick from one to the next and mark them for deletion, I think you can get it from their web-site referred to in a previous post.

CS2 is great for PP but a bit of a beast as bridge builds the icon cache of new directory contents when viewed (I think) but sounds like yours isn't installed correctly. No icons to start bridge and CS2?

NC (Nikon Capture) is good but very slow in comparison to CS2 and doesn't offer anywhere near the functionality.

I'd certainly try and turn any autoplay type stuff off, that'll get in your way...

For me Nikon View was a failure on the PC and MAC

I found it almost instant flicking through NEFs at full screen without delay, working through groups of files working out which is sharpest, best focus etc. I don't run it on a grunt box or anything just a 2.7G with 1G of ram, did you find it slow ?

I am not sure what you guys mean by autoplay sorry.I have a sandisk 12 in 1 card reader and all i do is press the button on the side of that and they are downloaded to my comp.Do i have to change the destination to cs2 bridge perhaps?.

Nikon View was just a pain. I can;t recall all the issues but it gave me lots of trouble. I appreciate this happens in the PC world but on the MAC I was reall dissapointed. Not that I'm a huge MAC user. Not to say that for others it works. Like you said your happy with it.... I'd luv to upgrade and have a faster "grunt" box..lol...

Aha, you're not using autoplay. As mentioned Bridge does not have a file downloader so changing the destination won't help. It may be possible to change the file handling on the card readers button to copy the files to a specified directory - Just guessing, I dont have one of these card readers with a button.
I am going to suggest that you download NV and give it a go.

I shoot everything in NEF and use RawShooter Essentials to process them. I like how it works- being able to flick through the files full screen and click on 1, 2 or 3 depending on how worthwhile the image was. You can also click on a suitable white balance spot as you go as well. When you are done you can process all the photos by group and I have it set to prefix the names of the files with the group number I selected. I also have it set to put the output files (Tiff, Jpeg etc) into a subfolder of the source files called "Converted".

For getting a birds-eye-view of my collection and doing basic printing and stuff I use Picasa 2, which doesn’t support D70s NEFS yet but is great for flicking though thousands of Jpegs quickly.

My next task is learning to do editing with The Gimp...
