Newbie question re D70s

Wish I could come to a mini meet but Australia is just way too far from NJ in the States!! I am a new dSLR trying to be user. I just got the D70s for my birthday on the 4th of July. I am completely overwhelmed but I wanted the camera for the speed. I had used a Coolpix 5400 and enjoy taking photos of my grandson and candid shots of people. I am enjoying this forum.
One question though, my photos look super clear on the computer. On my tv, if I view from the camera they look blurry and pixalated. So I tried to make a quick slideshow using Windows Photo Story and that was poor quality too. My Coolpix 5400 never had that problem. Any advice???

I might suggest using something better than Windows Photo Story, but that's about all I can suggest.

Your D70s is far superior to your 5400, but I doubt it's that big of a deal.

Try a change in software and see if that does the trick.

I posted twice because I had been reading the previous thread, and responded but then realized probably if I wanted a response to part 2 of my response, it should be seen by the general forum so I posted again.
I will try a different software but that still doesn't explain why the non clarity when viewing the pictures from the camera on my tv. Again, computer it is clear yet tv they look quite inferior.

The Coolpix5400 is a good little camera, thats what Ive got as a digital P&S while I was waiting for the dSLR's to drop to reasonable prices. My biggest grizzle with it is the focusing in low light.

Anyway, the difference in picture sizes between the two cameras are negligible, so I doubt its a resolution issue. Things that spring to mind are that possibly the image ratio (the D70 is 3:2 v's 4:3 for the Coolpix) is being misread by your TV and trying to display the 3:2 as a 4:3. Another thing to check would be what resolution you are running the Coolpix in v's the D70 and what image format you are using. Its possible that the slideshow straight from the camera doesnt work with RAW?

I havent tried using the camera into the TV on the D70, so will give it a try for you and see what results I get.

I've used my D70 and CP4500 on my tv and the results are quite nice (well, as good as could be hoped for). The thing to check is the video mode. You have a choice of NTSC or PAL, and having a US TV I would imagine that you should chose NTSC.

I gather you are happy with the files that come out of the D70 tho?

Just an FYI, I am taking pictures in JPEG fine, 6.1 (large) so maybe you are on to something with the 4:3 ratio, and any tips on correcting this I would appreciate. Anyway wanted you to know that the slide show was made with JPEG.

I double checked the video mode. I use NTSC (do video editing also) for my family. So that is why I am so baffled as to the differences between the 5400 and D70s. Again on the computer screen he D70s is far superior, yet on DVD or TV read, it is awful. I haven't tried taking my memory card into my camera shop to have the photos printed to see if the clarity on printing is as clear. I would expect them to be though. This will be delayed though cause we are going through some home renovations and I had to pack my picture computer away during the process
