When one person does not use a camera for a period would it be wise to take the battery out and store it seperate from the camera ?

Probably, but I doubt it'd make much of a difference.

...not use... ... for long period...

Can't imagine when that would possibly be...

I have two scenarios for you.

1. You've been involved in a nasty accident and both of your hands have been broken.

2. You've just been given a D2x. :)

according to the manual
after long periods of non-use it is best to take the battery out and store it in a cool dry place

a good place would be an upper city chic cocktail lounge occupied by a bunch of investment bankers trying their best to be humourous.

Small amounts of current will drain from the battery inside your camera even if it is turned off.

This is either a hypothetical, or a rhetorical, question, right?
