One thing that is missing from my D70s that my old CoolPix 4500 has is the ability to write exif stuff out to a text file with the jpg.

Irfanview lets you view EXIF and copy it to the clipboard, but only for JPGs, not NEFs, so you will have to do it from the output files from RAWShooter.

This is what i got from Irfanview-

File: - C:\Luke\Pictures\Joe and Gretchen's Wedding\Luke\Converted\1_DSC_0785-01.jpg

Make - NIKON CORPORATION

ApertureValue - F 4.20
ExposureTime - 1/80 seconds

ExposureProgram - Aperture priority
DateTimeOriginal - 2005:07:02 15:05:24
DateTimeDigitized - 2005:07:02 15:05:24
ExposureBiasValue - 0.00
MaxApertureValue - F 4.14
MeteringMode - Multi-segment
LightSource - Auto
Flash - Flash fired, auto mode, return light detected
FocalLength - 38.00 mm
SubsecTime - 02
SubsecTimeOriginal - 02
SubsecTimeDigitized - 02
SensingMethod - One-chip color area sensor
CustomRendered - Normal process

DigitalZoomRatio - 1 x
FocalLengthIn35mmFilm - 57 mm
SceneCaptureType - Standard

Your other option is some Perl Script that searches through the files and writes it to text similar to what my old Coolpix does. Google away :)

Cheers,

Luke

I'd also like some info on this subject.

Here is what i use and do.

I upload the images on my HDD with pictureproject
Use viewRAW to view the NEF files (only ever shoot in raw format)
Edit the images in Photoshop CS
Save in jpg format and keep the orignal NEF file

How do you embed the EXIF info in a jpg image, ive no idea and no idea where to start looking.

if you use the 'save as web' function it doesnt save the exif date, but 'save as' does.

Try a program called Exifer. Its free http://www.exifer.friedemann.info/

You select the image in question and "Save to file" the exif data.

Then you can do what you want with the image and when you want to reinsert the EXIF data you select the finalised image and "Insert from file", choosing the original images EXIF data.
