D2X Raw or Raw Compressed

D2X Raw or Raw Compressed

Postby LostDingo on Sun Aug 07, 2005 10:33 pm

Hi, just wondered if anyone has experience in using the compressed Raw feature and if they could see any loss in detail or highlights?

Can you see any noticeable differnce in a large print?

Personally I cannot see any difference but the amount of space savings is great!

Regards,

Paul

Hi LostDingo,

at this point in time I cannot tell.
Well if you would like to lend me your D2X I could certainly research the issue.

Haha  , I appreciate the generous offer and would consider but.......I'm afriad the answer might have to be no at this point in time.

I don't really understand the whole compressed raw, it looks really the same to me and if you save as a 16 bit tiff is still a whopping 70 meg file just as the uncompressed Raw

No and never use the compressed RAW/NEF file, I don't see the advantages of it,
You can afford the D2x then 5 x 4Gb CF card is the way to go.

Geez, I wish I could afford 5 x 4 GB cards but that won't be happening anytime soon!

It's similar to refill the unleaded petrol to the brand new BMW 740. It requires the Optimax.
