No such thing as a stoopid questionWhy is a round lens used when rectangular pictures are required?
So many ideas. So little time.

Same reason your eye isn't rectangle I suppose.
Corners would deform the light, round lenses focus it. Also, if your eye was rectangle it would irritate you. Heres a harder question, where does the 'white' go when the snow melts? 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Well, of course there were many early cameras - not least of which the Voigtländer Petzval and the original Box Brownie of George Eastman - which took round pictures. A bit like square pictures without the corners I guess.

Re: No such thing as a stoopid question
Serious answer: Because round lenses are a lot easier (cheaper) to make. Rectangular lenses are made by cutting a rectangle out of a round one (there are exceptions, such as some moulded lenses) Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
And don't forghet that if you watch too much tv, you'll end up with square eyes.
