Commercial printing from digital files

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. Commercial printing from digital files

Hi everyone,

My apologies if this question has been posted before (I did a search in these forums about commercial printers and most of the answers were about inkjet/do-it-yourself printing). Anyway, here is my question:

Can you please recommend which file format and specifications for digital files to be printed at commercial printers (eg, Teds, Kodak, Fuji photo booths, etc).

The reason I ask is that I save my files as NEF files, then convert them to TIFF for printing. The commercial printer rang me back saying that my files are too difficult for them to print (14Mb TIFF files with 16bit colour).

Another question I want to ask is which professional printing place/company would you recommend?

Doughnut, jpg is the standard for most photo shops, pro labs are more flexible (but they aren't 20c a 6X4) :wink:

Most labs prefer sRGB 8-bit files..they're normally happy to work with TIFF's or JPG's.

Yeah, I have to re-save my last batch of files to 8-bit RGB before they could be printed.
