Has anyone played around with sort of doing a pano type shot, but in a macro environment ? I thought it sounded like a interesting concept to try but I don't really have the gear right now to try to shoot it. It may not even work properly due to how close the subject would be etc but I was bored at lunch thinking about making bigger photo's out of smaller more indepth ones.


I'm not sure if anyone seen the I think its 2 giga pixel photo, but something like that idea, but for macro photography. The more I think about it the more problems I can see trying to do this... maybe it's just a pipe dream.

Perspective and parallax issues are going to be enormous at that scale. It's hard enough getting one shot with the composition right, let along getting a whole sequence right (and rotating the rig around the exact nodal (or whatever) point).

If you do it we'd love to see it!

Initially I though it would be cool, and with software these days pretty easy, but your right, when I started thing about perspective, parallax, barrell distortion etc it would get really messy. (I might still have a go at it sometime) just for fun.

I can see it now, a millipede pano.
Actually, perspective may not be a problem, just keep the camera still on a tripod and move the subject across a table a bit at a time. You may have to sedate the subject though.

probably not the best test, but this is 5 macro shots of my keyboard, stitched together in Panorama Factory. I don't think it looks too bad.



Obviously, depending on the subject/situation, lining the photos up might prove somewhat tricky.....but I think it is definitely possible

What do you think ??

Sounds like it could be a "challenging" competition idea to me, not that I would try but.........

Definitely thinking outside the "square", difficulty rating, hmmm OZONE stuff

But pick something that has different dimensional depth
