Sydney MaxiMeet Oct 13

Postby gstark on Wed Oct 03, 2007 12:20 pm

Announcing our first "MAXI-Meet"! 11am-3pm, Saturday 13th October at a not-so-secret location in Picnic Point, Sydney.

Apologies for the late notice, but it's been a while in the making!

Opportunities will(may) include:
- Portraiture setup and technique
- Post Processing and Printing
- Matte Cutting and Framing

Add to that extra-curricular activities of Coffee Roasting, brewing and drinking, and a few bangers on the BBQ, and the Mini- (now Maxi-) Meet is reborn!

Please note your interest in attending below, and we'll get more details out in the next couple of days.

Administrivia

Following some recent discussion about how some threads might be seen by some to be less than ideal for display in of the more image-sensitive areas that we variously inhabit, the real problem has been seen to be that some people title their threads in a somewhat generic manner. "For Critique", or "My Latest", for instance.

Please do not use this sort of method for naming your thread. Instead, please try to be a little bit descriptive of what the image might portray, so that prospective viewers may have a reasonable expectation of what they can expect to see.

And please also remember to be considerate to others: if you believe that there may be something contentious or offensive in your thread, a suitable warning (Warning: Duck photos, or Warning: Cute baby images) might also be appropriate.

It's been a while

since I've made this point, so a reminder is probably in order.

Please, all of you, could you please go through your email address books and remove any and all of the bargains (whatever) at dslrusers dot whatever email addresses that might be in them. Many email clients automatically add email addresses as you receive and/or send email, and that causes a spam problem for me.

And I do not appreciate that.

So, please, remove those references.

And be aware that within the next week or so I'll probably be changing all of those addresses anyway. I may even consider using an intermediary account, configured to permit me to identify each unique source of any email, and thereby permitting me to identify the original source of any spam.

Thanx for your cooperation.

Just around the corner for me, I am definitely in for this one! :-)

Thanks to Leon for going to the trouble to organise this. Meets such as this are a wonderful way to meet new members, exchange ideas, sell on unwanted gear, socialise with our host and his family, drink, drink, drink and maybe eat something. Oh, and the little workshops are fabulous for those who are still learning.

WOW! Looks like we're going to have a great turnout!

Yes, Matt's right, we're hosting this at our place - we have some room, so while we're still allowed to live here (;)) we might as well make use of it!

I'll put together a list of attendees tonight, and start working out numbers. I'll also forward some details via PM of where this is, so you know where to come!

Looking forward to it.

Looks like we've got around 25 at this stage - room for a few more, but not too many! Can't believe how quick you guys have been to put your hands up - must be a while since we all got together!

While I think of it, and given the turnout, wondering if anyone of the coffeesnobs out there (and I use that term with reverence, as I'm a beginner snob as well ;) ) are able to bring another machine with them? The coffee meet we had at Patrick's worked well with a couple of machines going :)

Surprising, eh? My dad is going in for bone marrow transplant next week, and I want to visit on the Saturday. Otherwise, I would be there faster than you can extract a shot of Vittoria. :D

On the administrivia point - what is the current email address for the bargains enquiries? I have sent a couple of emails (one last week and one a few weeks ago) to the email address on the bargains page (bargains0@dslrusers.net) and received no replies. I'm not sure if they are getting through or if everyone is very busy. I'm not worried or complaining, just wondering if I am going through the correct channels.
Thanks,

Lee,

If you're using the links, then they're going through to the correct address.

I think I've seen your messages - I need to access a different machine to see and check, and to see what I did (or did not) do. Give me a few minutes to check, please.

Have fun, guys.

Leon if you get a chance, russell up a blend of Yemen Moccha (1 part), Guatamalen (2 parts), Catimore (2 parts) and Sumatran Mandheling (2 parts) - beautiful, raisiny, dark chocolaty, slightly acidic (in a good way) kinda roast - does well as a very tightly extracted double ristretto, but cuts through milk nicely as well. :D Of course, now is a bit too late for tomorrow.

Thanks Leon for your hospitality, it was good to catch up with some of the guys.
Didn't do much photographically but I thought I would post this 100% crop which I thought was interesting.
I Can't even take credit for it, someone else (Rob I Think?) used my camera with the Sigma 10-20 on it to shoot Yip at close range
