Sydney Members' Dinner - Friday June 24

Postby gstark on Tue May 31, 2011 5:38 pm

G'day all y'all.

I've returned from my trip OS, and life is, sadly, settling back to normal.

It's been way too long since we've had a dinner, so please set aside Friday June 24, so that we can all get together and catch up with one another.

I'm thinking of somewhere in the Neutral Bay/Cremorne/Mosman area ... perhaps even The Oaks, if nobody comes up with a better suggestion.

Who's in?

It's a night dive night (they happen every 2 weeks) but dinner sounds like fun.

Hmm... I wonder if I could dive Clifton Gardens and then come back to The Oaks.

I am keen but need to know times - north shore is a fair hike for me after work and childcare pickup. Definitely keen for a few beverages and catch up

If we're at the Oaks, then timing doesn't really matter all that much. Rock up as and when.

Ok not Neutral Bay but up the Road in Crows Nest there is a veritable swag of eateries and Malabar comes to mind as an option

My knowledge of the area is getting very dated these days, but I seem to recall there used to be a number of excellent Indian restaurants just up the road in Crow's Nest.

Appreciating Gary's preference for a neutral bay setting, there are about 5 Indian restaurants on Pacific Hwy within about 200 meters of each other.

Personally, I would have thought that Crows Nest IS in the Neutral Bay area.
By my standards - easy walking distance.

By Gary's standards... Hmm., I can see where he is coming from  Usually from a great distance

There used to be an Indian in the arcade above Dymocks, but from memory it wasn't a great example of the art.

I'd place it at about two miles distance, mostly uphill from Neutral Bay.

But I'll be driving; I'm actually not the issue in play here for my preference for the Neutral Bay area.

So in 11 days time we're all getting together for dinner which is fantastic. Trouble is as far so I can see we don't yet have a venue. Shouldn't we get that one sorted soon?

I am not sure what kind of traction has been made on a venue, but apart from Malabar as Previously suggested, I also recommend Cumin for a good curry.

Patrick,

Would we need to make a booking for either of those venues?

I'm still somewhat partial to just meeting at the Oaks, as it's casual, easy to get to, no booking would be needed ... yes, Fridays could be a bit busy, but I'm sure we can cope.

What do others think?

It's this coming Friday, in case some hadn't noticed this. Getting some idea of numbers is probably a good idea. :)

Wouldn't somewhere we can book be better than the Oaks given this comment by Chris:

I'm still in, Oaks or no Oaks :D

I'm helping out at the Canon APPA, part of PMA, so not sure exactly what time I will be finished. My prints are being judged between 17:30 - 20:30, so not sure what time I will be able to get there, so an informal setup works better for me. BTW, if people want to see judging for certain categories of the APPA's, see the schedule at:
http://www.appa.aippblog.com/wp-content ... hedule.pdf

cheers,

I'm thinking that, given that some will be coming at at different times, keeping it less formal in terms of bookings and the like, The Oaks will be our best bet.

So, The Oaks, at Neutral Bay, from 7pm. We'll deal with the madding crowd as required.
