POTW 11-0802015

Postby Matt. K on Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:34 am

This weeks popper is this powerful portrait taken by petermmc. In the style of HCB, (Bresson), it is as fine an example of street photography as we are ever likely to see. It is direct, unpretentious, a little mysterious yet still very stylish. It is one of those images that would be difficult to place into a time....being just as relevant now as it would have been if taken in the 1940's. And just look at the composition....note the beautiful placement of the background and wonder at how well the rule of thirds can work when all of the elements fall into place. Note the control of depth of field to set the background, and try and imagine this image printed at 1 meter high on fine hahnamuhle matte 100% cotton fine art paper. If I have any small criticisms they would that the scarf should have increased contrast to make it pop a little more as should the zippers. And perhaps a tad more overall, (global), contrast and just a wee bit of vignette to darken the corners....but then it just could be my monitor.
Well done petermmc, I enjoy looking at this fine photograph.

Yes yes yes.

I'd love to see this one printed big, as Matt has suggested.

This was an easy choice for POTW. Superb candid. Congrats.
