PotW 7 October 2008

Postby Greg B on Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:37 am

Something a little different this week - wedding photography. I guess it is it's own special category
to a certain degree, and can encompass everything from the mundane to the creative to the
wacky and all flavours in between. But I would think that the primary mission is to provide a
lasting record of the big day with which the participants are happy .

Jonathon (jdear) went to New Zealand to shoot this wedding of Greg's (Mr Darcy) daughter, and
the results are great. I couldn't decide between these two, so they are joint Pictures of the Week.

Looks like a very happy (and colourful) day, and no doubt the bride and groom will be delighted with these images
(and the others which are on Jonathon's blog, linked in the original thread here )

Great choice(s), Greg.

Almost anyone with a little photographic ability can record a wedding. Heck, even I have done it on occasions. :)

But these pix go well beyond basic wedding photography, as they have an additional artistic flair that is missing in much photography of this genre.

To be able to do this during the tension and excitement of a wedding is a special talent, and Jonathan has that in spades.

And I don't subscribe to the "it's the venue" theory either. The place is pretty, sure - but the artist has to be able to portray that in his images.

Congratulations on these wonderful wedding pix, fully deserving of PotW status.

Excellent choices, Greg, and fantastic images, Jonathan.

My pick of the two would be the second one. It has a Marcus Bell quality to it (that is supposed to be a compliment) and everything about the arrangement is spot on.

Some great images and well done on picture of the week. My personal pick would be number two as the first seems (on my monitor) the suffer from to much glare due to the backlit sun. Great concept and natural photo though.

Congraulations jdear. Well deserved.

Damn! my daughter made it to POTW before I did. At least she only made it as a model.

Congratulations Jonathon.
I'm biased, but I think it was an excellent choice Greg

Jonathon

Congratulations on getting POTW for a very deserving image. Like Greg these were the 2 standouts from your post and I'd have difficulty choosing between them. I think they are a fine example of your creative abilities and eye for composition.

Couldn't agree more Trevor..

I had a D80 thrust into my hands a few months back at a mates wedding and I did little more than "record" the event..

When I looked back at the shots later I was very dissapointed at my efforts but it had woken the bug back up and it's bitten pretty hard.. (although I'm glad I decided to start buyin stuff a few months back rather than now... it cost me enough as it was...)

These shots are brilliantly artistic and capture the beauty of the day and their feelings for each other far more than a mere "recording" of the events could have done...

Love the second one

Well done Jonathon....
