POTW - 16 June 2009My turn again to pick the Picture of the Week, and it doesn't get any easier!
To me, there's been a couple of pictures I think are worth 'honourable mentions' this week as well as the picture I've chosen as actual POTW. First, for it's moment in time and overall technical quality, from this thread by Rooz: http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36638 And then from brentsky came this thread with amazing colours and movement: http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36617 and in particular this photo: Both of these I really enjoyed seeing, and I have come back to these several times over the last couple of days trying to decide on a favourite. But then this one came along - from Alpha7 on the 2x2 meet (http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36679): What impressed me most about this photo wasn't so much the technical quality of it, but the shear determination shown by Craig to brave the crowds on the night to get this image - most of us gave up on the thought of getting that close! The image itself though also records the scene very nicely - the warmth of the colour contrasts nicely with the cold of the night, the crowd assembled continues through the whole frame, giving an almost endless feeling to it and the overall 'ghostiness' introduced by the processing goes well with the theme of the presentation they were about to witness. So well done, Craig. A lovely photo, *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Re: POTW - 16 June 2009well done Craig!!! great shot and a well deserved winner!!

Re: POTW - 16 June 2009Thanks Guys, I'm surprised and excited at the response this shot got, as I nearly didn't take it. As interesting was the fire/water show was, the more surprising thing was the hordes of people and lots of young kids that had piled around the cove to see it, so I'm glad in the end I tried to capture it. Given I haven't been sharing much of my photography of late I'm honoured to get POTW, thank you Leon.
Re: POTW - 16 June 2009Great shot Craig, well deserved.

Re: POTW - 16 June 2009Bloody BRILLIANT ! Craig,
Is it one of those pics, also has that old feel about it and mystical. An amazing shot. Well done, Mic.
Re: POTW - 16 June 2009Great choice Leon, I also like the way you have selected and mention other excellent contenders, nice one!
Craig, cracker of a shot, well deserved on so many levels!
Re: POTW - 16 June 2009Terrific image Craig. I sometimes worry about the surreal aspect of HDR when pushed too far BUT like all techniques 'running the edge' in photography this treatment really is well suited to the topic and enhances the overall image feel and composition. Great choice Leon.
cheers marco
