Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

Well here we are again, POTW @ DSLRusers. This week was a no brainer for me and with not many images posted the process was quick. Mr Darcy (Greg's) a picture a day thread has provided many interesting and fine images however his recent addition of "Day 209 Strike?" caught my eye, I felt there were a few aspects that could be improved but these were overshadowed but a nice clean and interesting image of something slightly different. The choice of acrylic base worked very nicely and I am sure the new D800 helped So my choice for the 31st July POTW is Gregs "Day 209 Strike?". Well done mate. http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=41863&start=444757#p444756 Day 209 Strike? by gregdarcy, on Flickr

Well done Greg. The use of the marble was inspirational.

Getting a pure black is no easy taks in photography. The image is striking and deserves the win.

Very nice, I think the pattern on the marble is what makes it stand out.

Aw shucks thanks. (insert emoticon of foot shuffling dude here) I agree with Murray's comment about using focus stacking but Pam has eaten all the Jelly Babies now (or maybe she's just hidden them so I won't) so I can't retry the shot. I bought a sheet of black acrylic (perspex is a brand name) on a whim from a run down looking place on Silverwater Rd one day when I was driving past. I think it was on the corner of Derby St. Anyways it is on a corner just a few blocks north of the freeway ramp. Western side. From memory it cost about $25 for 600x 900x 3. And they cut it for me on the spot. If I was doing it again, I would get a bigger sheet. It is hard to keep the edges out of frame on anything but the smallest subjects. For other places you might try this listing: http://www.plasticwebsite.com.au/nsw_fabricators.htm

Nice one Greg. The real question is where did you get real jelly babies from?
