POTW 31-03-2015

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW 31-03-2015

This weeks pick was a difficult exercise....I was attracted to this image by aim54x for its thoughtful composition and beautiful technical quality...

and this amazing image by Aussie Dave....

Eventually I decided that Aussie Daves picture would get the Guernsey because of the wonderful capture of the rhythm and striations of the water which can only be revealed with a very high shutter speed.
Well done to both photographers anyway. :D :D :D

I am more than happy to share the Guernsey with Cameron.

A good contrast in these two images:
- slow shutter speed vs fast shutter speed
- tranquil vs action
- night vs day
- symmetrical vs asymmetrical
- tripod vs handheld
- artificial lighting vs natural lighting
- single focus vs continuous focus
- wide angle vs telephoto

...yet both associate water as a main element in the photo.

Well done Cameron! :)

Very generous of your Aussie Dave, it was hard to pick from your shots, but your points are very valid about the contrasts between our two images.

Two very good images here, great choice for POTW. Tony your comments were spot on, well done on the win and Cam I loved this shot from the start.
