There are lots of great images from which to choose the PotW, and just to look at and enjoy.
This week, the PotW is from Owen. He started a thread
http://www.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=6531&highlight=
"Post your three favourite pics - I'll start!"
and he laid out three very nice shots. However, I was particularly taken
with the first. Just a great shot - I love mixed lighting sources, some time
exposure, all good. I believe the SB-dolphin in "just turn it on and light paint the tree" mode was used to great effect.
Great shot Owen (and a good thread too - well worth a look through)
PS Owen mentioned he is away for a few days this week, so don't be offended if your inevitably favourable comments don't get acknowledged straight away.

Whilst I think that the tree has a bit too much light on it, it is a really beautiful shot.
Excellent work Owen!

Well done Glen! I found this image intriguing and that's very positive, it was brillant to get this long-exposure effect in the background and the overall composition works very well.

Congrats Owen, as I said in the original thread, I would love to see this photo enlarged and framed on a wall - it's brilliant.

Congrats Owen, an interesting idea could of probably been executed a tad better though as I think Leigh has pointed out (eg. to much light on tree). I'm also not sure about the ghosting of the stars. Not sure what has caused that but I would have liked to either seen either no ghosting or the stars trail.
I sort of feel the look of it has that of being quite mystic. It'd be interesting to find some sort of forest and paint it with very soft lights of various colors (eg. soft blues and pinks) to create a sort of Lord of the Rings elvian feel to it.

Hi guys.
I'm back now, thanks for all the great comments! I had this tree in mind for a while and when it was a clear night I thought it was a good opportunity. I was lucky that the clouds provided a bit of something extra for it, and I did have to burn in some detail on the tree so it wasn't so over-exposed. It is really hard to judge whether you're giving enough light with a torch like that (As well as having cars drive by with their headlights on it slightly).
Thanks guys, I feel very privileged to have POTW this week It is very encouraging.

Thanks mate. Post processing included changing white balance as the tree was more orange from my torch light. Also a boost in saturation and cloning out the purple glow that you get from long exposures.
Cheers,
Owen.
