Nikkor-P 105mm lens - Opinions?Hi Guys
Is anyone familiar with this lens which is (supposedly) one of the best Nikon ever produced for Portrait work? Reason I'm asking is I'm currently deliberating whether to invest in it or not, with the intention to use it with my Nikon film camera. Does anyone have any opinions as to whether it's (reported) good reputation is justified or not? Thanks Nikon D70, Nikon D200, Nikon F100, Nikon 18-70mm, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 17-55mm, Nikon 85mm, Nikon 24mm, Nikon 60mm, Nikon 105mm, Tamron 70-300, SB800, SB28, LSPJ
Deb
are you referring to this http://www.dantestella.com/technical/1052.html I have used this lens at the mini meet courtesy of birddog the DC controld are hard to work out don't exactly know what the defocus control does but the bokeh is sweet and creamy at the settings it was defaulted at I think 105m is tight for a portrait lens, you have to get quite far for minimum focus range I prefer the 85 f1.4 cheaper than hte DC it's nikons sharpest lens with the most delectable creamy quality of Bokeh you'reever likely to encounter.
Are U talking about the Nikkor-P AI 105 lens?
Will it work on your D70? Birddog114

Wendell, She said Nikon (Nikkor-P) not the DC. Nikkor-P is AI, have you tried one before? Birddog114

Wendell, she mentions she wants to use it on her film camera, so the 105 would be the same as your 85 on a dslr. André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

Yes, I am talking about the Nikkor-P AI 105 lens. No, it will not work on the D70 (unless converted) which is why I mentioned that I'll be using it with my Nikon film camera. No, I have not used one before, which is why I am asking for opinions. Are there any out there? Thanks guys. The AI lens needed to be re-chipped, then it'll work on modern camera bodies and only in manual. Birddog114

Also depending on what version of it:

Thanks Birddog, that's an interesting site. The lens is the 105cm f/2.5-22 Auto Nikkor-P. I've got an FG now, but am on the lookout for (probably) a good F90X or a F100. I'm sure the lens (AI) needed to be re-chipped and it can be used on the F90 or F100. And sometime, re-chipped does not works as you wish. Birddog114

Birddog Do you sell Nikon film cameras? If so, do you have an F100 at present?

Sorry, NO. Who's going to buy a new Nikon F100 now? I think eBay is a good option for you. Birddog114

Doesn't have to be new, as long as it's in good condition. But you're probably right about E-Bay, unless anyone here on the forum has one for sale?
