B&W enlarger

Hi,

I'm looking for a secondhand B&W enlarger to print from film up to 6x7 and to size up to 30x40 (ideally up to 50x60 but not necessary). Anyone's selling? Anyone knows someone who's selling? Anyone whants to get rid of old stuff? I could help

I did this in the past, then I switched to digital and now I'm back with film again. Yes, I REALLY want to go down this track. Don't ask me why - I just fell like this. I'm developing color and B&W films myself and scanning them. Now, I'd like to print B&W myself and whant to stay away from PSCS etc. as far as I can - enough computers at work I totally fed up with them. Perhaps in the future I'll start printing colour as well.

I haven't completely switched to film - as I said before, I'm still using my D70 for some applications where manual focus and exposure cameras aren't that comfortable but mostly I'm using my ancient cameras meantime.

And yes, question is still open - I'm still looking for B&W enlarger

I don't know the answer to that Mikhail. I've never used a colour head enlarger, only B&W's. Try contacting the eBay seller.

Have done a quick bit of research as I wanted to know the answer to your question too.

Yes you can use a colour head, in fact you won't need any extra filters for multi grade paper, you just dial it in on the colour head.

Genrally, yes.

If you're going for a 5x4, you'll need to ensure that you get all of the adaptors for the different filmsizes - 6xwhatevr and 35.

Anyway, I'll need to customise one for xpan 24x65 mm frame - I don't think there are standard ones.

5x4 is definetely something I'd like to try and I even have 2 packs of Ilford Delta 4x5 sheetfilms. The only thing I need is large format camera to borrow and reels to develop sheets in the drum

Thanks everyone! I decided to go De Vere because they have s good reputation and in the futureI might try colour wet printing with this one (I do have a JOBO CPE-2 and drum for papers)

yes .... you get a better result printing B&W with a colour head..........

Definitely get a colour head so if you decide you want to print colour you don't have to stuff around with matching filters out of the pack.

I loved printing mono and if I had the dedicated area would go back to doing some. It's quite theureputic.

Printing Ilfochrome is also great stuff. It is a bit tricky particularly in loading the drum and doing the exposure in complete and utter darkness.

Does anything match a Ilfochrome/Cibachrome print?

With the size of prints you want to do I would think you will nearly have to have a 5x4 enlarger.
In 6x7 the LPL 7700 C is a nice enlarger.

Hi Craig,

Already got DeVere 504 with color Dichromat head (capable up to 5x4"). Not sure if my bathroom-style dark room will be suitable to print ilfochrome/cibachrome - it isn't dark enough for such process I think. But seems too be dark enough for B&W

just to add to the cibachorme

you need to have a very well aerated room, an airextrator is a must. the cibachrome chemicals are extremely strong and very hard.

durst enlarges: be very careful as some of them the head are very plastic and get loose and there is no way to fix it. i think the 600 series they have that problem.

ilford multigrade paper is the best, try ilford multigrade gallery, very nice paper.
